DescriptionThis collection consists of letters from John William Purser, CMS missionary in Uganda, to his mother and includes photographs and a newspaper cutting. One of the photographs is of the party of missionaries and their families, possibly including George Harry Casson (List I 1521)and Henry Herbert Fathing (List I 1523) taken on board ship 1899.

Administrative HistoryJohn William Purser (List I 1525) was a CMS missionary in Uganda 1899-1905. He was ordained in 1900 by Bishop Tucker but in 1905 his resignation from CMS was accepted as a result of his views on ecclesiastical matters. He translated the Epistle of St James into Kisukuma.
Custodial HistoryDeposited with the CMS in April 1985 and transferred to the Special Collections Department in 2005
