Administrative HistoryWilliam Thomas Fairburn(1797-1859) was born in England but emigrated to Australia around 1817. After his marriage to Sarah Tuckwell in 1819 the couple sailed for New Zealand where he was instrumental in establishing the CMS New Zealand mission. He worked as a schoolmaster for the CMS in New Zealand 1828-1842 (Paihia 1828-33, Puriri 1834-37, Maretai 1838-42) until his resignation from the CMS in 1841.
