DescriptionPapers relating to the making of the first photographic and film documentary of CMS work in India when Edward Cash toured India taking photographs and filming for the Autoscope Company on behalf of CMS. Compiled by Alan Birt Acres.

Including a photocopy and transcription of Edward Cash's 1904-1905 diary, a leaflet about Birt Acres (film pioneer, founder of the Autoscope Company, and brother-in-law of Edward Cash), and a chapter of Alan Birt Acres' biography of Birt Acres which relates to Edward Cash and his tour of India.

Cash's diary includes a record of places visited, the CMS workers he met, and the photo opportunities experienced.

Administrative HistoryEdward Cash (b 1871) was brother-in-law of Birt Acres (1854-1918), the pioneer in film and cinematography who had married Edward's sister, Annie, in 1890. Under Acres' guidance Edward became a skilled photographer and film maker in his own right and in 1904 went out to India for a six month tour filming the work of the CMS. The tour took him from Bombay [Mumbai] to the Himalayas, through Calcutta [Kolkata] and down to Ceylon [Sri Lanka].
