| Administrative History | Oomen Mamen (1830-1904) of Travancore, a Syrian Christian, attended Cottayam College [Kottayam]. He was recruited as a CMS missionary in 1856 and was ordained as deacon in 1856 and priest in 1859 by the Bishop of Madras [Chennai]. He was stationed at 'Allepie', Mallapalli and Changanacheri [Changanassery]. He translated sections from English Divines, printed under the title 'Spiritual Gems'. He became Archdeacon of Mavelikara. His son, Allumettel Oomen Matthai, was also a CMS missionary.
