DescriptionSketch book entitled 'Portraits of school girls and other persons' containing sketches by Caroline Cuffley Giberne, missionary teacher in India. There are sketches of nineteen of her pupils, together with brief descriptions of them, and letters, newscuttings, photographs and samplers made by her pupils.

Two of the items have pencil revisions.

Administrative HistoryCaroline Cuffley Giberne (d 1885) served with the Society for Female Education in the East and was stationed in Ceylon. By 1844, she was a CMS missionary teacher and was stationed in Kadathapuram, Tinnevelley, South India. She served with the CMS until 1862. She died at Bath on 14 June 1885
Custodial HistoryThis collection was deposited in 1950 with Selly Oak Colleges by Helen M. Neave. It was then transferred to the Orchard Learning Resources Centre which was opened in 1997 following the merger of the Selly Oak Colleges Library and the Westhill College Library. In 2000, the custodianship of all archive collections held at the Orchard Learning Resources Centre was transferred to the University of Birmingham

These include, for example, annual and other letters and half-year reports of female schools which she sent to CMS headquarters, 1841-61 (GB 0150 CMS). The Special Collections Department also holds the surviving archives of the Society for Female Education in the East (GB 0150 FES)
