Administrative HistoryThe Institute was set up in 1949 with headquarters in London. It promoted lectures, conferences and courses of study on rural life at home and overseas. It maintained contact with societies around the world which had interest in rural life, as well as Government Departments, churches, missionary societies and the United Nations. It had a small library and provided an information and advisory service. The Institute was dissolved in 1983
