DescriptionOfficial correspondence and copy correspondence of Lesslie Newbigin, telegrams, reports and minutes of the South India United Church (SIUC) Joint Committee, notices of meetings and notes of meetings, press cuttings, printed material and associated papers relating to the movement for church union in South India, and the establishment of the Church of South India. Most especially the papers relate to meetings of the Church Union Committee of the Madras Church Council, the Joint Committee of the SIUC, resolutions of the General Assembly of the SIUC, the inauguration of the union, the nomination of bishoprics, and the inauguration ceremony held in Madras Cathedral in Sep 1947.

Correspondents include professional colleagues associated with union matters in India and England and missionary associates including Rev J. H. Maclean, Rev R. A. Dudley, member of the Madura Church Council of the SIUC, Rev C. A. DeBruin, of the American Arcot Mission, Rev J. Sterling M. Hooper, Rev Michael Hollis, Bishop of Madras, and Rev Arnold H. Legg.
