Administrative History | Harry Holliday Newham was born in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. He entered the Methodist Ministry in 1899. He lived and worked in the following locations: Kolar Gold Field[s] (1899-1902); Hassan (1903-1908); England (1909-1910); Tumkur (1911-1916); Wellington and Bangalore (1917-1919); England (1919-1920); Tumkur (1920-1923); West Africa (1924-1930), where he became Chairman of the Sierr[a] Leone District; Bangalore, [Kanavese] (1931-1944), where he became Chairman of the Mysore District; Bangalore and Mysore (1944-1946), Supernumerary; Selly Oak, Birmingham, England (from 1946); He died 5th October, 1953. He was ?related to [Wynnel E. M. Newham]. In 1917 Newham was shipwrecked off the coast of Ceylon, and a letter documenting his experience is included in the papers. |
Custodial History | Unknown deposit to the Selly Oak Colleges Central Library [later forming part of the Orchard Learning Resources Centre]. However, some material appears to have been in the possession of and/or deposited by Rt Rev N. C. Sargant, Rev Dr. A. Marcus Ward, Cathedral Library, Bristol, and the South Asia Church Aid Association (Inc), London. In 2000, the custodianship of all archive collections held at the Orchard Learning Resources Centre was transferred to the University of Birmingham
