Administrative HistoryWorking closely with the Artistic & Managing Director, the General Manager heads the team of permanent staff based at the Open Air Theatre offices. Responsibilities include the administration of productions in the Park and on tour; overseeing budgets; fundraising and sponsorship; management of contracts for administrative staff; remuneration of staff; insurance and day-to-day management. Since 1997, the Company has employed a book-keeper to assist with financial record-keeping. Tthe New Shakespeare Company had Managers or Company Managers until 1974 when John Grant became General Manager (until 1977) and Tony Hill Administrator (until 1976). In 1976 there was no Administrator and from 1978 until 1993 both roles were combined as Administrator and held by Kenneth Davis (1978-1984); Paul Huntington (1985-1986); David Pickard (1987-1989); Robert Noble (1989-1995). In 1994 the role was changed to General Manager and held by John Godfrey (1995-1996), Sheila Benjamin (1997-2003) and William Village (2003-2006). In 2006 William Village was appointed Executive Director which absorbed the role of General Manager.
