TitleProduction Administration Files (Open Air Theatre & Tours)
Extent62 files
Date1962-2000
DescriptionFiles of material relating to the general administration of New Shakespeare Company productions, at the Open Air Theatre and on tour. The material appears to have ben pulled together retrospectively, initially by David Conville and in later years by the Administrator [General Manager]. Seasonal files for the Open Air Theatre typically include general correspondence; letters from the public requesting information or giving feedback on performances; cast lists and biographies; production schedules; production or seasonal accounts and budgets; sample bills and invoices; details of publicity and advertising; box office returns and material relating to special performances (lunchtime productions, gala performances and performances given by outside companies or musicians). Seasonal files from 1986 onwards contain a much smaller selection of material, which suggests that material is no longer accumulated in the same way.

Tour administration files typically include correspondence with the funding body or sponsor (e.g. The Arts Council of Great Britain, The British Council); correspondence and contracts with touring venues; box office returns; production budgets and schedules. Publicity details for touring productions initially appear within these files, but from 1983 onwards, separate marketing files are present [series ref. DSH1/5/10].
ArrangementFiles for Open Air Theatre summer seasons and touring productions have been filed as a single chronological sequence for ease of reference.
LocationTHIS MATERIAL IS HELD AT THE SHAKESPEARE INSTITUTE LIBRARY, STRATFORD-UPON-AVON
