Administrative History‘King John’ edited by Robert L. Smallwood was part of the New Penguin edition of the complete works of William Shakespeare published between 1967 and 1987. The general editor was T.J.B. Spencer, Director of the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon until his death in 1978. The associate editor was Stanley Wells, also on the staff and later Director of the Shakespeare Institute, 1988-1997. Robert Smallwood was a Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute from 1966 until 1989.
