DescriptionA small collection of letters and signatures collected by Edith M. Barling, from contemporaries representative of academic, scientific and literary life as well as national and international public figures such as Albert Einstein, Sir Raymond Priestley and members of the Chamberlain family, together with some signatures and printed ephemera. Predominantly English; two items in French and one letter in German. Pasted in the front of the album is a book label of Edith Barling.

Administrative HistoryEdith Madge Barling (b c 1888) was one of two daughters of Sir (Harry) Gilbert Barling (1855-1940) and Katharine Jaffray (nee Edmunds, d 1920). Sir Gilbert Barling was surgeon at the General Hospital, Birmingham, 1891-1915, Professor of Surgery, University of Birmingham 1893-1912 and Vice-Chancellor and then Pro-Chancellor, 1913-33
