Richard Martineau was Harriet Martineau's cousin. He was a partner in Whitbread’s Brewery, a wealthy business man who gave Harriet financial and business advice.
Copy of the Will of Richard Martineau of 17 Westboune Street, Hyde Park, Middlesex is held at Suffolk Record Office, Bury St Edmunds Branch. Ref: TEM.173/235. Bequests to his wife, Lucy Martineau; his nephew Frederick Manning Needham of Gloucester Square, Hyde Park; his coachman Joseph Barton; to William Mitson, his gardener at Walsham; trusts in favour of his daughters Mary Constance Martineau and Caroline Ann Martineau, and his son John Martineau; all property at Walsham le Willows and elsewhere in Suffolk to his son John Martineau.
