| Description | A lengthy letter written on 8 September in response to a letter from Graves in which Harriet begins with information about a 'cowkeeping pamphlet'. She then writes in detail about Lord Carlisle, his illness, his personality and how she came to meet him. She mentions the suicide of a nephew's wife, discusses a neighbour, Miss Napier, and talks of her demanding relationships with her two nieces. The letter ends with local news of people and events and information about her own health and medical treatment - ' a great increase of opiate'.
