DescriptionUndated letter, thanking Graves for his note. She writes in support of Jane whose conduct has been questioned and reports that her aunt, Miss Rankin who has been staying, will visit Jane at Tynemouth to learn more. According to Harriet Martineau's autobiography, Jane was a young woman whom she had mesmerised while living in Tynemouth but for whom 'the sudden cessation of the mesmerism was disastrous'. Harriet Martineau subsequently offered employment to Jane as a housemaid and she worked for her from 1846 until 1853
