Lengthy letter with a detailed discussion of contemporary children's literature and poetry, with an assessment of various authors and their works, including works by Miss [Maria] Edgeworth (1767-1849, novelist), Mrs [Mary Martha] Sherwood (1775-1851, author) Miss Sedgwick and Emily Rankin and her own Playfair. An extract from her estimation of Edgeworth includes the statement: 'I wish somebody wd do her due honour for her noble assertion of the due of Governesses, in Practical Education.'
