TitleLetter from Harriet Martineau, Tynemouth [Northumberland] to unnamed recipient, 4 May
Extent1 item
Date[1844]
DescriptionThis letter appears to have been written in a different hand, but with one insertion and signature in Harriet Martineau's hand.

Refers to a letter she has written to [Edward] Moxon (1801-1858, publisher and verse-writer) on behalf of the recipient and expects an answer by the end of the week which she is confident 'will be favourable, at least as far as that he will wish to see your papers'.

Mentions her recent reading of 'Collegians', the arrangements for the delivery of parcels to her which are normally left at her friend's house from where they reach her 'sooner or later, though not so quickly as they would if we had Rowland Hill's "Parcel Post"'.

Also includes discussion of 'the enterprise', a reference to her scheme for popular libraries.
