DescriptionThese three letters, dated 6 and 14 Dec 1855 and 22 Mar 1856, document Martineau's desire to have her autobiography complete before she dies which she feels could be within a few more weeks or months. The first letter explains that she wishes the portraits to be enlarged for her autobiography; in the second letter she comments 'I don't wonder that you don't see any likeness in the Gillies portrait'; in the third letter she is 'delighted that you can speak so confidently of the smaller engraving' and concludes 'my work is comfortably done and my mind at ease'
