Description | In 1915 James Louis Garvin was commissioned by the Chamberlain family to compose a biography of Joseph Chamberlain; he completed three volumes of his 'Life of Joseph Chamberlain', and these were published in 1932-1934; in 1946 he decided to cease work on 'The Life', and Julian Amery [Baron Amery of Lustleigh] was appointed to complete the task; Amery's final three volumes were published in 1951-1969; this material relates specifically to the composition of 'The Life', being either composed, compiled or acquired by Garvin and Amery during the period they were associated with the publication |
