He writes to say that he has spoken to Sir ?E. J. Rud who has sent him the particulars of a steam yacht which might have been 'suitable'. He expresses disappointment at the fact that Thompson is 'unable to take the longer voyage to Norway'. For himself the cost of a steamer 'appears to be more than 'he had expected', hence his decision 'to fall back on the ordinary boats'. He thanks Thompson for the kind invitation to 'join his...trip', but he intends to give Norway 'a trial' as he has 'never seen that country' (18 July 1884). He also writes to accept an invitation to a ball hosted by Thompson, (11 July 1885) |
