Letter written from 40 Prince's Gardens [London], dated 13 April and marked 'Private'. Chamberlain writes that at the moment the best thing he can do for the Liberal party is 'maintain silence at any Election that may take place'. He explains: 'On the main issue I am against you - on everything else I am heartily with you' and expresses his regret at the situation.
