Description | Letter written from Highbury, Moor Green, Birmingham dated 21 October. Chamberlain writes to Lady Dorothy [1826-1913] to say that he will attend to Mr Hardy's application but there are many applicants and few posts available. He writes about his holidays in France and Scotland, his long conference with Clemenceau 'the coming man in France' [Georges Clemenceau, 1841-1929; Member of Chamber of Deputies, 1876-1893; Prime Minister and Minister for War, France, 1917-1920], and an article ('Radical Programme') in the Fortnightly [Review], in which he had had a hand. [This was in fact one of a series of articles that appeared in the Fortnightly between 1883 and 1885, all of which were 'encouraged' by Chamberlain]. |
