|Letter written from 40 Prince's Gardens [London], regarding an application to the Midlands Union for a grant to pay Mr Hougton's salary. Chamberlain discusses financial arrangements for securing Houghton's 'full services'. In a postscript Chamberlain refers to the correspondent's letter of 1 June to Baron F. de Rothschild [possibly Ferdinand James de Rothschild, JP; MP; 1839-1898].
A pencil annotation at the top of the letter reads 'Gift'.
