Description | Letter written from 40 Prince's Gardens, dated 13 April and marked 'Private'. Chamberlain writes that his brother-in-law Mr Alderman Kenrick could have 'an absolutely safe seat in Birmingham' but has decided not to stand. He discusses the possibility of Arch gaining financial support for his candidacy, mentioning other areas and candidates (Dr Foster, Gurden). He expresses his view that Mitchell, who has previously received 'considerable sums' from subscribers, has no claim on the party and concludes: 'If his Liberalism is dependent on his pecuniary interest we are much better without him'.
[The old former paper catalogue listed Walter Wren as recipient]. |
