Rendel [1834-1913, Baron Rendel, industrialist, politician, and philanthropist] sends fifty pounds towards Chamberlain's collection for Jesse Collings, explaining that the amount is small but represents 'a great deal of sympathy for Mr Collings and of respect for you'. Rendel writes that, despite reservations about Gladstone's actions, he will support the Irish bill because he supports the principle of Home Rule.
