Date1885
DescriptionLetter written from Highbury, Birmingham dated 14 December. Chamberlain informs Russell [1834-1920, first Baron Russell of Liverpool, newspaper editor and proprietor] that he is unable to make an engagement. He writes that he is not prepared to make a 'pronouncement' at present. He expresses, in 'strict confidence', his concerns about negotiations between Gladstone [1809-1898, prime minister and author] and Parnell [1846-1891, politician and landowner].
