Russell [1834-1920, first Baron Russell of Liverpool, newspaper editor and proprietor] reflects on the change in his relationship with Chamberlain, writing: 'I sometimes wonder [...] whether you & I will ever again see things in the same light'. He sends an article in which he recalls 'a very happy period - as it seems to me in retrospect - in which you and I were growing up'. He writes about his respect for Chamberlain and his distress at Chamberlain's course of action in 1886 [his resignation from Cabinet].
