Date(1902-1904)
DescriptionThese are transcripts of 6 letters written to Iwan-Muller as leader-writer for the 'DailyTelegraph'.

The first two appear to relate to the political and economic situation in South Africa [which Iwan-Muller had recently visited]and include references to the recent peace [presumably that following the treaty of Vereeniging signed in May 1902], to [Alfred] Milner (1854-1925, statesman, as high commissioner for South Africa, 1897-1905), [John Xavier] Merriman (1841-1926, South African statesman), [J. W.] Sauer and others.

The next two letters of July and September relate to Iwan-Muller's journalistic work: one letter thanks him for permission to republish an article in the 'Daily Telegraph'; the other, in response to a letter sent to Chamberlain [following his resignation as Secretary of State for the Colonies] refers to their close relationship and thanks Iwan-Muller for his help and acknowledges 'how generous has been the attitude of the Daily Telegraph during my term of office'
