DescriptionExpresses pleasure and offers congratulations at Woodgate's promotion 'in the Order of St Michael and St George in recognition of the valuable services...rendered in Sierra Leone' [where he organised the West African Regiment]. The reference to Woodagte going on to serve his country in another part of Africa is a reference to his transfer to South Africa. He had arrived in Durban in December 1899 and in January occupied Spion Kop with the Lancashire Brigade. He died from wounds received there on 23 March
