Chamberlain writes that 'Mundella the Great' [Anthony John Mundella 1825-1897, politician], John Morley [1838-1923, politician and writer] and T. H. Escott [1844-1924, journalist and newspaper editor] are visiting him in January and invites James to join their party. He adds: 'I won't bore you with Orchids nor force you to drink dry Champagne & Port - although by these remedies judiciously applied I have got rid of my gout.'
