In his letter of 1894 Chamberlain writes to lend his aid to the municipal unionist cause in London. He accepts the position of vice president of Holland's 'new society', though with the proviso that nothing will be done to 'whittle away' the 'popular side' of Holland's 'programme'

In his correspondence of 1899 Chamberlain is concerned with the appointment of a 'Committee' [?the Select Committee of May 1899, established to inquire into old age pensions], and the necessity for Holland 'to draft a form of reference' for those who should be appointed to it, 23 March. He suggests the 'Committee's list' should include Holland and Sir J[ames] Rankin [1842-1915, politician] as representatives for the 'Cottage Homes Bill', 28 March
