Includes a note in Charlotte Bedingfeld's hand: 'These letters were received by me during the year 1824 a year of sorrow and anxiety such was the will of the Almighty & I submitted as well as I could.' Her daughter, Matilda Cary, also added a note: 'The above was my dear Mother's writing'
The paper on the inside of the board bears a watermark of 1823
