Description | Charlotte has titled this 'My Journal' and the cover also bears the text '4th Book February 1830'. The daily entries cover the period 22 February-22 March.
The journal was maintained while Charlotte was largely resident at Hammersmith Convent and she keeps a record of her daily routines in some detail, the visitors and letters she received. Her husband had died in 1829 and she often mentions feeling low and unwell. She maintains contact with her family and records, for instance, her worries for her daughter, Agnes, who is looking for a house in Liverpool for her confinement; she also reflects on her mother's anniversary in the entry for 1 March and she reflects on her own life. She returned to her London house in Bolton Row on 17 March but went back to the convent on 20 March |
