Datec.1797
DescriptionManuscript copy of letter by Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) to Mrs. Vaughan of Hackney, London. Writing from his new home in Pennsylvania, USA, Priestley says that his home was built for him and his family and that although he is currently staying with his son Joseph they will both live in the new house together. He expresses his fondness for the area and that he hopes never to leave it, wishing 'to end my days here'. He then speaks of Mrs. Vaughan's son and his impending arrival saying 'there is no person living whose sentiments, views and pursuits are so much the same with my own'. He closes by requesting as an addition that 'as this is the last letter my wife wrote I wish you to show it to Mr. & Mrs. Lindsey'.
