Description | Printed form completed in very rough handwriting: household of Chas Sibthorp 6 June 1841
[Searching for the enumerator's return, the household is revealed as comprising: Charles W[aldo] Sibthorp MP age 45 living at 2 Delahay Street, St Margaret's Westminster with his son Jarvis T[ottenham] W[aldo] Sibthorp age 23, and two servants Richard Roles [Rolls] age 40 and Elizabeth Finlayter age 30. Sibthorp was a noted reactionary, so perhaps the scrappiness of his return was a reaction against the concept of the census and the increasing power of the state. Clearly the enumerator used other information as well to complete the entry from the scrappy information supplied by the household itself Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Sibthorp; https://www.ancestry.co.uk/ Accessed April 2017] |
