Campbell-Bannerman (1836-1908, Liberal Party politician and British Prime Minister from 1905-1908) explains that he cannot attend a Liberal meeting in Maidstone organised by Mr Barker because 'the Transvaal question covers the sky, and I cannot avoid it'. He asks Allard (liberal political organiser) to find a substitute to attend Barker's meeting.
