| Description | Letter written from Erdington, Birmingham, dated 10 December. Mason lists the properties that he is leaving to Avery in his will. He intends two of the properties to be the site of a 'College and Schools for technical education and instruction', and asks Avery to carry out this wish.
Josiah Mason (1795-1881) founded Mason Science College in 1875. The college opened for its first academic session in 1880/81. Mason Science College was incorporated into the new University of Birmingham when it was founded in 1900.
The item is accompanied by a typescript letter dated 15 September 1955, in which Edward D. Johnson presents the above letter to the Secretary of the University of Birmingham. |
