| Description | Letter written from Norwich, dated 10 January. Sayers [1763-1817, poet and scholar] writes on literary and scientific matters. He bemoans the 'unaccountable dearth of good literary productions' in England, writing: 'one would almost suppose that the faculties of the inhabitants were totally over-powered by the war & the scarcity of corn'. He discusses various authors and books, including Alexander Thomson, a translation of Schiller's 'Fiesco', the work of Wieland and his friend Taylor's appreciation of it, German literature and Fourcroi's 'Philosophic Chemique'. He asks Ash [1764-1829, physician] to send the latest edition of Blumenback's 'Physiology' as he is working on a translation. |
