| Description | Letter dated 21 July, addressed to 'John Ker Esq, Writer, Glasgow'. Cunningham sends information about the papers of Robert Burns which were in the possession of 'Clarke the schoolmaster'. He tells Ker that many of the letters and notes were destroyed by Clarke's widow because 'they appeared to contain passages of a blasphemous, licentious or seditious character, which she thought it might be injurious to her family & friends to read or even to show'. He writes that he has contacted Clarke's daughter and will obtain copies of any remaining letters.
With note giving a brief description of the above. |
