The text is copied from a letter about the William Bourke Kirwan case that was originally published in Freeman's Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser, 20 January 1853, signed 'One of the Jury'. Only parts of the original letter have been transcribed. The material that has been copied relates to the scene of the crime.

The case referred to is that of William Bourke Kirwan, who was convicted c1852-1853 of murdering his wife. He was given a prison sentence rather than the death sentence due to inconclusive evidence. He was released on the expiration of his sentence, and moved to America.
