Date(1940)
DescriptionHe writes as Prime Minister to inform Kingsley [as Chancellor of the Exchequer] of the decision by [Sir Arthur] Neville Chamberlain [1869-1940, statesman] 'to resign the Chairmanship of the Conservative Research Department'. Although the demands of 'war work' have necessitated the suspension of the operations of the Research Department, Churchill insists that 'the framework of the organisation should be kept in being', so that it will be 'ready to start again when the time comes'. He desires Chamberlain's replacement to be a 'Cabinet Minister of senior rank with keen political insight', and 'should be very grateful' if Kingsley 'would be willing' to undertake the task
