DescriptionProforma printed contracts relating to the publication of Elgar's compositions, all with autograph amendments initialled by Elgar and containing details of payments and royalties. The contracts relate to the following works:
two choral songs 'Dawn off the Foreland', 'In Lowestoft a boat was laid', set to words by Rudyard Kipling, 14 March 1917; two choral songs, 'Be well assured' and 'The Submarine', also set to words by Rudyard Kipling, 10 May 1917; and settings of eight poems by Alfred Noyes, 10 September 1924.

The Kipling settings are all from 'The Fringes of the Fleet' performed at the Coliseum in 1917; the settings of Noyes are from 'The Pageant of Empire'. Source: Sotheby's Catalogue, 17 May 2002
