TitleLetter from Edward Elgar to Leslie [Boosey]
Extent1 item
Date1926
DescriptionLetter written from the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne to his publisher in which he apologises for his previous letter which may have been 'somewhat crude' and gives Boosey the freedom to make whatever arrangements he thinks best in respect of Elgar's involvement in writing music for a silent film 'Hope and Glory'. The letter is dated 9 November 1926.

This letter relates to Elgar's only involvement with films. Producer S. W. Smith has produced a silent film, 'Hope and Glory' and invited Elgar to write music for it and perhaps conduct a small orchestra during its performance. Elgar was offered £100 for the job but immediately refused it as being too little. He subsequently accepted the offer because of personal financial difficulties.
