| Description | This letter, written from Holmleigh, West Road, Cambridge and dated 16 November, appears to have been sent in response to a query about a discrepancy between a statement in Thomson's book 'Elements of the mathematical theory of electricity and magnetism' about 'tension across unit area' and one in James Clark Maxwell's book, 'An elementary treatise on electricity'. Thomson writes that Maxwell's book was published after his death and 'had not undergone his final revision'.
The recipient is assumed to be W. Cramp as the book in which this letter is found bears a printed label of The Institution of Electrical Engineers awarding the volume to him in the Session 1909-09 |
