| Description | Letter written by Reginald Walter Macan (1848-1941), Master of University College Oxford and classical scholar from Broom Hill, Berks nr Oxford and addressed 'Mr dear Chief!'. The letter relates to the publication of his rendering of the Christian Collects into Latin verse of which his correspondent appears to have approved despite the author's concern that 'they m[igh]t be too medieval for your classical taste'. Macan refers to a complimentary mention of them in 'The Times', an earlier example of versifying the Collects and an error in his text. This letter is dated 12 December 1928 is contained in a signed copy of a limited edition (number 34) of the publication 'The collects proper to the Sundays & holydays of the Christian year:according to the use of the Church of England' which was published in that year |
