Extent17 files
Datemid-late 20th century
DescriptionThese papers contain records relating to Low House, the Association's hut in Coniston, Cumbria. The papers comprise a variety of record types including reports of the Warden of the Hut Committee, financial records, correspondence, papers relating to the purchase of the hut and papers relating to refurbishment. The papers are largely dated between the 1950s and 1990s.

Following the advent of a motorway network in England in the early 1960s, the Association realised that the Lake District was a viable location for their second hut. After inspecting a number of properties across Cumbria, Low House was viewed in 1966. An Extraordinary General Meeting was held after the Annual General Meeting of 26 April 1966 and the Association agreed to purchase the property. Low House first appeared in the Association's handbook for 1967-1968. By this date it appears to have been ready for use by Association members.
