Description | Album containing programmes for productions of dramatic and musical entertainments which were performed principally at London theatres, 1889-1898. A small number of programmes relate to productions at theatres outside London, including the New Theatre, Oxford and at other venues in Europe. There are, for example, German programmes of productions performed at the Bayreuth Festival Playhouse in 1892 and an Italian programme for a production of 'La Traviata' in Rome in 1898. There are also a number of programmes for entertainments performed at public venues in Kent, principally at Gravesend but also at Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Deal and some of these entertainments were fund-raising events. The name of Mrs Colyer-Fergusson appears in the cast list in some of these programmes, 1893-1898
The majority of the programmes include cast lists and some include colour illustrations. In addition to the programmes, the album also contains newspaper obituaries of the actor, Fred Terry (d 1933) and the actress, Mary Brough (d 1934)
Many of the programmes have been annotated by Sir Thomas Colyer-Fergusson to include the date of his attendance and some include the initials of others accompanying him. The early programmes in this album, for example, record the initials of his fiancee, Beatrice and her parents, Professor and Mrs Max Muller |
