Administrative HistoryLouis Cohen (also known as Lewis, Loo or Lew Coen) wrote a number of short dramatic plays and historical sketches including 'The Widow Capet', 'The Drummer of the 76th' and 'Marshal Ney'. He was a member of the National Sporting Club, Covent Garden, London where a number of his works were performed. His works were also performed in London and provincial theatres in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of the newscuttings in the collection refers to him as 'a pioneer of the gold industry in South Africa'.
Custodial HistoryThe two volumes and three of the five files were formerly numbered 5344-5348; one file was formerly numbered 2596; and one of the files was unnumbered. They were incorporated into a collection called the Theatre Collection but they have now been identified as an unconnected acquisition and catalogued as a discrete collection. The files use headed lined paper bearing the address 19 Upper Westbourne Terrace, Hyde Park, London W but there is no evidence of any connection between this address and Louis Cohen
