| Description | In 1970, George Brown, the former Foreign Secretary, published memoirs criticising the Foreign Office and its staff. Shuckburgh responded to these criticisms in a letter to the Times: '...now that Mr Brown has renewed his attacks publicly in the Sunday Times I think it is time something was said by a former member of this service which he persistently denigrates and ridicules.' The file includes a cutting of this letter, other press reports about the affair, and letters to Shuckburgh from various friends thanking him for speaking out. |
