Written on the reverse of a bill of exchange, dated 10 May 1880, addressed to Sir Henry Layard by John Elijah Blunt, requesting payment of £16 0s. 4d. for expenses incurred by J. Alvarez.

[NOTE: Justin Alvarez, who worked under John Elijah Blunt at Salonica, later became British Consul at Benghazi and subsequently Consul-General at Tripoli].
